What does PACE stand for?
PACE stands for Positive Action towards Career Engagement.
How much time will it take up?
The PACE Mentoring Program is a four-month commitment. It is recommended that you meet with your mentor approximately 6-8 times within the four-month period. This is negotiated between you and may be dependent on your goals.
Meetings are typically between 1-2 hours duration, and should occur during ordinary business hours (9am to 5pm).
What do mentors and mentees do together?
The main activity between you and your mentor will be conversation. You will talk about your experiences, goals, plans, skills, and career and education pathways. Other activities may include:
- Reviewing resume and cover letters
- Mock interviews
- Worksite visits
- Networking with other professionals
- Discussing workplace adjustments
- Building confidence
How should mentors and mentees communicate?
You and your mentor will work out how best to arrange meeting and communicate with each other. This will happen at your first meeting. We recommend that the majority of the sessions will take place at the mentor’s workplace.
Who should manage the relationship?
Once you have been matched with your mentor, the initial contact should be made by you. At the first meeting you will agree the meeting dates, times and goals for the program. You will be responsible for recording all the actions and outcomes after each meeting and monitoring your progress.
What are the key aspects to ensure the mentoring is successful?

How do I know if I am eligible to be a mentee?
To be eligible to be a mentee you must be over the age of 18 years and have disability. It is expected that you commit to developing your skills and experience to support yourself as you set out into the workforce. You will need to provide AND with any relevant disability information and any information regarding adjustments or modifications that may be required for the duration of the program.
If you require an adjustment to participate in the program which has a cost associated, e.g. an Auslan interpreter, this cost will be covered by your mentor’s organisation.
When should I apply to be a mentee?
The matching process takes place in early March and early August each year. It is recommended that you apply just before those months, however, you can apply at any time and your application will be kept on file until the next available program.
